A young Nigerian woman named Gloria has reached out on social media seeking guidance as she shares her distressing predicament. She explains that her fiancé, despite both having the AS genotype which raises the risk of having children with sickle cell disease, is unwilling to call off their engagement.
Gloria, possessing the AS genotype herself, reveals that her fiancé’s rationale is that their love can defy the odds and prevent the birth of a child with this genetic ailment.
Sickle cell disease affects red blood cells, causing them to become deformed and more susceptible to breaking down. Gloria writes:
“I have the AS genotype, and so does my fiancé. I am aware that we shouldn’t marry due to this, and I’ve informed him. However, he insists that nothing adverse will occur and points to instances where AS couples have married without having a child with sickle cell disease. What should I do? Seeking advice from my fellow sisters.”
Shifting focus, Nigerian fashion designer Yomi Casual has taken to his Instagram on August 2nd to offer counsel to men. He urges men to care for their wives, as they will reap the rewards in their later years.
Yomi emphasizes the significance of prioritizing family and advocates for showering wives with love and attention. He underscores that the kindness invested now will bear fruit during their elderly years.
