A couple who had been married for 10 years without children recently had a special event in Cross River State. They became parents to five kids, which is a very rare occurrence. This happened at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
The babies, three girls and two boys were born in a short span between 10:50 a.m. and 10:54 a.m. on a Monday. They weighed between 1.45kg and 1.75kg. Right now, they are being cared for in the Special Care Babies Unit of the Teaching Hospital, and they are doing well.
The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, visited the new parents and happily announced a donation of one million Naira to support the family’s needs. She also gave 500,000 Naira to the medical experts who helped with the safe delivery.
The father of the quintuplets, Dr. Ekpo Edet, expressed his joy and thanked God for answering his prayers after waiting for ten years. He mentioned that this is the first time in the history of Cross River State and UCTH that five babies were born at once.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, congratulated the father for his patience during the long wait for children. Dr. Ayade and the State Commissioner for Health also donated an incubator machine to the hospital on behalf of the Cross River State Government.
